SLIK PRO 700DX Professional Tripod with Panhead (Black) 4.3 out of 5 stars 77. Must one get Arca Swiss heads and QR to alleviate the problem? What about the much less expensive Manfrotto heads with their RC2 clamps and plates? The RC2 also comes in an ARCH(itechural) version which has a flange that prevents camera twist.Īm I missing something? You are not using the tripod foot attachment, that comes with the 70-200 2. SLIK Pro 700 BHX AMT Tripod with SBH-808DQ Ball Head - Black. Secondly, L-brackets are available which allow you to tilt the camera 90 degrees to one side while keeping the lens centered on the tripod. I think the problem is with the head and/or quick release, not the tripod legs and the OP might need a new head but be able to keep the legs.īuy an head which uses Arca-Swiss type QR with beveled clamps, and plates which are molded to fit the camera. I'd suspect any head with a quick release that's valued at $40 of perhaps not being up to the task of holding a DSLR w/ a 70-200 f/2.8 lens. Some people consider it as being better than the 055, regardless of price. The legs are highly rated and usually compared closely with the Manfrotto 055. It is also available in a legs-only version for $100. The Slik 700DX is not just a tripod-it is a tripod and head-and it sells for $140. I just don't believe the Slik is up to the job (it is a fairly cheap tripod afterall) I had this tripod until I bought my D700, with the 16-35mm on, it wouldn't hold. Not sure if I'm describing this very well, not sure if I'm using the tripod correctly, not sure if it just wasn't designed to carry that much weight. Maybe I'm way off base but it seems if the screw was a left hand thread it would tighten with the extra weight and not loosen. Is this correct? I can turn the panhead around and use it backwards which will tilt to the right hand side and the weight of the camera will "tighten" onto the screw that holds the camera to the tripod. If you are behind the camera and tripod I am tilting to shoot portrait mode to the left side. No matter how tight you get the round attachment to the camera it will not hold. The problem is when shooting portrait the weight of the camera loosens the screw that holds the camera to tripod. When using in landscape shooting, no problems what so ever. With my Nikon D700, 70-200 2.8 lens, and the SB900 flash, that's alot of weight. I'm not sure that I'm using it correctly. It is a fantastic tripod but here is the problem. SLIK was also thinking ahead when it designed the head and quick release system.I'm using the Slik Pro 700DX Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head. Raise the smooth gearless centre column to its maximum height and your camera is 1,900mm off the ground! Note, the PRO 700DX is full-sized, with just the legs extended and the centre column down the camera is already at eye level for most people. The legs weigh less and are stronger than the standard aluminium used in most of today’s tripods. “What’s so great about AMT alloy?” It has 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminium. SLIK’s exclusive AMT super titanium alloy legs make the PRO 700DX tripod rock steady yet lighter than its competitors with similar max weight capacities. It offers photographers the strength and stability they need on flat and uneven surfaces. SLIK PRO 700DX can handle the weight of a professional full-frame DSLR camera with a heavy long telephoto lens. Aluminium, Magnesium, Titanium-Alloy Legs.
